Flights News - Luggage Restrictions Eased
New government rulings on the amount of hand luggage we can take on planes will come into effect from the 7th January 08. This change means that passengers on flights to or from one of 22 UK airports are permitted to carry on more than one item of hand luggage per person.
The one item rule has been in place since August 2006, amidst many terror threats at UK airports the government put in place many restrictions on what passengers could carry on to a plane. These restrictions brought about the one item per person rule but also the kind of item you can safely carry with you, which remains in effect.
This dictated that at one point you were not allowed to bring any liquids onto a flight. Mainly because there were fears that terrorists could bring the necessary components to assemble a bomb/weapon and assemble it in-flight.
Whilst it managed to eliminate this threat there were other groups that were affected, parents bringing small children on board were not allowed to bring pre-made drinks/food on all flights, this was a shock to parents who would be forced to pour away the bottles they had prepared for a long flight and now had no food for junior!
This ruling was relaxed slightly later on with a limit being put in place rather than an outright ban on liquids, the official limit for these items is now 100ml of each of gels, pastes, food stuffs etc.
But this change is not being rolled out at all UK airports, currently 22 UK airports will be permitting multiple hand luggage items, but some others, notably, London's Gatwick Airport will not be changing on 7/1/08 due to issues with the Department of Transport.
The Department of Transport has surveyed airports to see if they can handle the added hand luggage whilst maintaining the current added security, without adding to queues. Those that have not been able to meet this requirement, like Gatwick, require additional staff and equipment and will be delaying the introduction of this new ruling.
The airlines themselves are split over this decision though, British Airways is to permit two items of hand luggage per person, Virgin Atlantic is sticking with the policy it has had since before the August '06 changes; one item for economy and Economy Plus passengers, with allowances for laptops and handbags as well but two items of hand luggage for First Class customers.
Cheap Flights operator EasyJet has been reluctant to change their one item policy since there is potential for confusion to the customer as not all airports are supported under this new ruling, EasyJet operates out of 14 UK airports but only 7 have been approved by the Department of Transport.
The main point that the BAA is enforcing is to check with your flights company before leaving to ensure you know what is and isn't permitted for your journey. At least with this change it's going to make flying simpler and not having to worry about almost every aspect of flying, making for, hopefully, a relaxing flight to your holiday destination!

10 Key Ingredients Of A Holiday
Are you planning on booking a holiday soon? If so, here are 10 things you'll have to consider.
1. Destination - Deciding what part of the world you want to go on holiday will be your first challenge. You may have a country, city or island in mind, even if you've not decided on a resort.
2. Flights - You'll also need to make sure you can fly there from the airports in your region, so check out flights and flight times before you make a decision.
3. Resort - Now it's a case of choosing which resort you're going to go for. This decision could be based on proximity from your destination's airport, family-friendliness, cleanliness, how lively it is, the beaches, etc.
4. Accommodation - Now it's a case of finding the right hotel, apartment or bed and breakfast house. You may want somewhere close to the beach or resort amenities, somewhere ideal for a couple, or somewhere that has entertainment for children.
5. Board basis - You'll also need to decide whether you want room only, self catering, B&B, half board or all-inclusive, so think about the type of holiday you want and what fits into your budget.
6. Transfers or Hire Car - When you land on holiday, you will need to find a way of getting from the airport to your accommodation. If you're not hiring a car, then booking transfers with your package holiday may be needed.
7. Hotel Parking - At the other end, your departure airport, you may want to leave your car for the duration of your trip, so it's there upon your return.
8. Taxis - Alternatively, you may prefer to have a taxi take you to and from the airport. If so, booking a reliable taxi firm that's willing to do both journeys will be helpful.
9. Clothes - Depending on the type of holiday you want and what the weather is doing in the place where you're heading, you may need to add a few new clothing items to your suitcase.
10. Currency - Lastly, before you depart, you'll need to make sure you have some money exchanged into the relevant currency and possibly some traveller's cheques.
So, where do you fancy going on holiday? If Bulgaria sounds like your cup of tea, why not check out flights to Bourgas? Alternatively, how about looking at flights to Czech Republic?

Greece and the Greek Islands
Many people see Greece as a cheap package tour to get some rest and sunshine, but how many people who actually go to Greece SEE Greece. Greece has a rich history that goes back for over 4,000 years. The ancestors of Hellenes, which is the mainland of Greece, were explorers who travelled the Seas, both the Mediterranean and the Black Sea - covering many distances in search of new people to trade with. The Greeks settled from the Mediterranean, Asia Minor, and along the coast of North Africa during their travels.
The people of Greece have always had a strong desire for independence, and enjoy their freedom enough to fight for it over the years. Alexander the Great is perhaps the most well known Greek, conquering most of the known world during the 4th century BC, with a plan to Hellenize it. In 146 BC, Greece was defeated by the Romans, and in 330 AD, Emperor Constantine founded the Eastern Roman Empire. By 1828, the Greeks in a small area of the country had won back their independence, and they continued to fight for the rest of their land. After World War II, many of the islands were returned to Greece, independence, and freedom.
The country of Greece is a peninsular and mountainous land, geographically located in Southern Europe, and characterized by more than 1400 beautiful islands. The Greece islandsattract people from all over the world to spend their vacations and holidays, and since the weather in Greece year round is full of sunshine and mild temperatures, you'll be sure to experience the beautiful nature of Greece. With over 13,676 km of white sandy beach coastlines, and crystal clear, sparkling waters, every beach lover is sure to enjoy a trip to Greece!
Greece is situated along the Mediterranean, comfortably located between Albania, Bulgaria, Turkey and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Greece is surrounded by the Aegean and Ionian Sea. Some of the most visited islands include Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Corfu, Lefkada and Alonissos.
There are hundreds of Islands, all owned by Greece but many unpopulated. The islands that are used by tourists come in many different characters and flavours catering from young peoples holidays, through family and young children to older and retired people, choose your island well, it will be the choice between one persons nightmare vs. another's paradise!.
Next time you visit Greece, take time to study the Greek food in the shops and restaurants.
You might find there are many of the local food you have never heard of. Spend longer look at the menu and ask the locals what they eat, a great way to discover new food. As well as tourist food, they also have many delicious recipes worth sampling. Even the famous Greek Salad is different in many areas of Greece and is often eaten every day.
Many believe that wine was invented in Greece, its well worth sampling many of the local brews, if the thinking is true, they have more experience than anyone else in the world!
Finding accommodations in Greece is not difficult, and you have many options to choose from. There are the typical Greek hotels, along with villas, apartments, rooms, hostels and camping available for people travelling in Greece, with 'island hopping' a favourite amongst many people, young and old alike!.
So next time you're planning a trip to the 'Greek islands', research your trip and include some of the many other sites and experiences that can be found in this ancient land.

The CAMINO de SANTIAGO - A Life-Altering Trek Across Spain
Although they say it's the journey that matters and not the destination, I, too, had my doubts. I'd backpacked extensively across Europe from Finland to Greece and Ireland to Bulgaria and collected passport stamps at a dizzying rate. That was until I heard about Spain's Camino de Santiago. And what a difference that trip made.
If your idea of exploring Europe is already met by a "been there, done that" response, think again. There's a unique option whose concept started long before the advent of EurRail passes and city-a-day college party tours. Try walking all or part of the Camino de Santiago across northern Spain for an intimate, at-your-own-pace exploration of a country steeped in magnificent beauty, art, and history.
Traveling the "Way of St. James" originated over a thousand years ago when pilgrims or peregrinos from throughout Europe set off from their homelands toward the edge of then-known world and Santiago de Compostela. They came in search of miracles, as penance, or in devotion to St. James the Apostle who is entombed in the cathedral. Pilgrims in those early days, who included even royalty and popes, faced bandits, extreme illness, wolves, difficult river crossings and dangerous encounters with the Moors. Fortunately today those challenges no longer exist, allowing millions to make this journey with much less life-threatening hardship.
Many begin their odyssey from St.-Jean-Pied-de-Port just across the French border in the rugged Pyrenees, or in Roncesvalles on the Spanish side. In either, you can register and obtain a Pilgrim's credencial that identifies you as a peregrino and allows you to stay in albergues or refugios, those hostels with bunk beds or modest inns along this 500-mile path.
Each day you set out in the cool early morning air either alone, in couples, or a group, depending on your inclination. Hey, this is no guided tour. Everyone sets their own pace shepherded by well-marked arrows or signposts. This well-worn path wends its way through vineyards overflowing with grapes ready for harvest, among apple and pear orchards, across fields thickly scented with thyme, past a checkerboard of fresh vegetables, then over the desolate, windswept meseta or plateau. It climbs thousands of feet to secluded mountain Brigadoons, such as El Cebreiro with its traditional Celtic round stone houses. Then it descends to tree-lined Galician pastures dotted with hórreos, those elaborate grain storage bins resting on stilts.
Setting out at an easy-going pace with my ultra-light eleven-pound backpack, I trekked only twelve miles at first, reaching a comfortable public albergue in the early afternoon. These simple inns are located in unusual settings, from historic 16th century convents to hospitals run today by the Knights of Malta to modern prefab complexes run by volunteers. All provide basic dormitory-style bunk bed accommodations and showers. Many even include common kitchens, laundry facilities or Internet-connected computers. So never fear, you're never further out of touch than you choose. They hold 20-800 travelers each night. (So bring earplugs.) Charges are modest, from a simple donation to $6-8 a night. Bedding is usually not provided, so it's a good idea to bring a sleeping bag.
It wasn't until a few days later that I began to slowly increase my distance to twenty miles each day or more-but then again, that was my choice. You set your own pace.
How long does it take? Perhaps, as little as 26-30 days if you plan to do it in one stretch. Or take as long as you wish. Many hike two weeks one year and two the next. Bicyclists typically spend two weeks whizzing along the trail. But it's always essential to carry as little as needed
So who walks the Camino de Santiago today? Thousands of students and travelers of every age come from around the world. In just one typical year, there were over 25,000 folks from seventy-two countries. They trek the Camino year round, but July and August are very crowded and hot, with no shade in many sections of the trail. I strongly recommend May-June or September treks. The weather is better and the crowds are fewer. Fall temperatures range from 80 to 40 degrees (F), and winters can be quite cold with snow. Plan on rain any time of year, but especially in verdant Galicia, Spain's equivalent to our Pacific Northwest.
During my first Camino experience in 1999 and again this past summer, I met a virtual UN of peregrino travelers, ranging from twenty-something students to a good-humored school administrator in his sixties who hiked nearly a thousand miles from Dijon, France. I was amazed to meet a couple in their 70s who'd hiked and biked from Holland and was impressed to see a pilgrim with MS on a specially-designed bicycle.
What attracts folks to the Camino? For many, it is the solitude, simplicity and chance to simply unplug, unwind and shut out the distractions of an increasingly intrusive world. For others it is a chance to meditate, search for answers, to give thanks, or find inspiration. This is the perfect venue, since it is ideally more of a walking meditation than a marathon.
For some, it is the chance to discover precious, little-seen art and architecture, such as Astorga's magnificent Bishop's Palace built by renowned architect Antonio Gaudi. It's an opportunity to stroll ancient Roman roads and appreciate twenty-arch stone bridges like the Paso Honroso, commemorating a month-long jousting tournament in 1434. Or explore 13th century castles such as the one in Ponferrada built by the Knights Templar, or the elaborate fountains, frescoes, sculpture and relics sequestered in tiny Romanesque churches along the way.
For others, it's the opportunity to take part in a rich tradition of wandering the same path in the same spirit (and earning the same aching muscles and blisters). Lasting friendships are forged as you join an international brotherhood of millions of peregrinos from over the past millennium.
Whatever the reason for your personal journey, one lasting highlight is Spain's rich culture. If you're lucky, you might arrive in a village during their version of the running of the bulls, or during a Saint's Day festival, as I did in Puenta la Reina, aglow with savory cuisine, great local wine, traditional costumes, serenades from street musicians and concerts in the plaza.
Or explore traditional delicacies, from the wonderful selection of rustic chorizo (sausage) and hearty sheep cheeses of the distinctive Basque region to Portomarin's enormous almond pastries, Torta de Santiago, decorated with sword and shepherd's staff. Discover the delicious variety of affordable tapa (appetizer) bars. Experience grilled pulpo (octopus) in a rowdy pulperia. Sip delicious viño tinto wines across Rioja, Burgos and the bodegas of the Mesa, or apple cider and delicate white wines poured at arm's length into pottery saucers in Galicia. It's doubtful that you'll ever find these at home.
Whatever your motivation, friendly villagers will occasionally surprise you with a "Buena Camino!" from their modest doorstep or second floor window, or graciously fill your water bottle. Peregrinos have trod this path for a thousand years and these towns have a long tradition of hosting travelers.
When you arrive in the university city of Santiago de Compostela, whatever your personal belief, one emotionally charged finale is to attend the Peregrino Mass, featuring the world's largest incense burner, the Botafumeiro, swung back and forth across the transept by eight men. Then join the throngs in paying a visit to the Apostle St. James' tomb. Later, with your Pilgrim's Credential filled with stamps from all of your albergue stays and church visits in hand, go to the Office of Peregrinos to receive your official certificate or Compostela as proof of your journey.
Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy the culture and dining of this beautiful town, or do as I did on my most recent journey and trek another three days to Finisterre - the "end of the world" (in days before Columbus). And no, beyond there I didn't find any dragons.
It's easy to get to the trailhead, just fly to Madrid or Barcelona. Most frequent connections to Roncesvalles are through Madrid. Take a bus to Pamplona, then a bus the next day (only 1 daily) to Roncesvalles. Bus connections are also available though Barcelona. Or, fly to London and catch an inexpensive flight to Bayonne, France, not far from St.-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
As always, it is the journey that matters, not the destination. Remember this, and with any luck you'll find whatever answers you seek. As a wise man once said, "Solvitur ambulando" or "It is solved by walking." Try it for yourself and see.

History of Bulgaria - Part I
Bulgaria is the site of one of the world's oldest civilizations, and the oldest known writing system (the Gradeshnitsa Tablets which date to at least 4000 BC).
In early classical times the territory of Bulgaria was inhabited by the Thracians. The Thracians were divided into various tribes, but eventually united as the Odrysian kingdom under King Teres in the 5th century BC. The region was invaded by the Romans in 188 BC, and wars continued until 45 AD when Thrace became a Roman province.
Beginning in the 2nd century AD, a semi-nomadic people, the Bulgars, began to migrate towards the West from Central Asia. By the 4th century, the Bulgars had settled in the lands to the North of the Black Sea, around the Sea of Azov, and by the 7th century had established a state known as "Great Bulgaria" or "Onoghuria" in the region. Later in the 7th century, one tribe of Bulgars moved West, defeated the Byzantine empire in a war, and were recognized in the subsequent peace treaty with the Byzantines as an independent state in 681.
The First Bulgarian Empire was established under the warrior Khan Krum (802 to 814) who conquered a number of lands in the Balkans. The empire eventually encompassed all of present day Romania, as well as parts of Serbia, Macedonia, Albania and Greece. It was during this period the Cyrillic alphabet was adopted, and Christianity was introduced to the Bulgarians.
The Byzantine Empire ruled Bulgaria from 1018 to 1185, but after a revolt in 1185, a Second Bulgarian Empire was established. However, this Empire was relatively short lived. In 1354 the Ottoman Turks crossed into Europe, and by 1396 had conquered the whole of Bulgaria.

Direct Flight To Beijing From US Capital
Following the recent United States federal approval United Airlines has launched the Beijing to Washington DC direct flight service. The first flight to Beijing from Washington DC flew in late March 2007.
Seven airlines now provide direct flights to the Chinese mainland from US cities. Four American airlines and three Chinese airlines service the US-China routes. When the new slot opened up Northwest airlines tried to break into the lucrative US-China market however the option it put forward which would have seen flights to Beijing from Detroit was rejected. United airlines put forward a case that highlighted the benefits of linking the two capitals.
It was with great excitement that the first direct flight to Beijing from the United States Capital was launched. Many seasoned travelers said this flight was long overdue. For Chinese families living in the Washington area and for many government officials and business people the flight servicing Beijing direct from Washington was welcome news.
The first-ever non-stop flight from Washington DC arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport at 1:55 pm on March 29, 2007
Previously, many east coast travelers would fly to China through Chicago, which could present problems when bad weather caused delays. Some travelers would even miss connecting flights due to the bad weather that is common place in Chicago. The Chicago to Beijing direct flight has been operating since April 2001. United Airlines also operates this route.
As more and more Chinese benefit from the booming economy in that country Chinese nationals are taking the opportunity to travel to the United States. This has resulted in a well patronized US-China air routes attracting strong interest from the airlines.
When the new slot between the US and Beijing was opened up last year, airports and airlines waged a tough battle to secure the prized new route.
Ma Kezheng, a former diplomat who has previously lived in Washington, said it was the right decision and will bring the two capitals closer together culturally. He was surprised it took this long to open the route.
"I found it difficult to travel home to Beijing from Washington without the option of the direct flight," said Kezheng.
United Airlines are using a 347-seat Boeing 747-400 to service the route. The flight time to Beijing from the US capital is around 13 1/2-hours. In the past east coast travelers would normally have to fly via Chicago in order to get to and from the Chinese capital.
Special ceremonies were held at the airport in Washington prior to the departure of the inaugural flight to Beijing. One of the guests, Zheng Zeguang, a Chinese embassy minister, said the Beijing-Washington route increases the number of weekly flights servicing the two countries from 105 to 119.
Travelers are hopeful that even more flights will be added in the future as there is high demand for seats on a Beijing flight. The Chinese government is holding back further expansion of services to China as it tries to protect the domestic airlines from competition that would come if it allowed the market to open up further.
The Washington-Beijing route will make a strong market even stronger as more travelers will take to the skies.

Everquest and Platinum - Are There Other Real Uses For It?
However, if you are quite comfortable with your dependency then I and your attention starved partner, and everyone else that is around you should respect that and deal with it. What though about the financial portion of the game? After all the game play time you have invested you might just have an abundant amount of EQ plat on your hands. Is it possible to turn your platinum, into either real cash or other goodies?
You could use eBay even though the developers of Everquest have asked them to stop auctions on platinum to cash trades, or you can go to specialized site that focus strictly on this subject and then you can sell you EverQuest platinum away for some cold hard cash. If selling your platinum for real currency leaves a bad taste in your mouth then maybe you might want to think about selling your account itself. Yes the pinch of selling your beloved high level characters is horrific but when you think about it some might pay big bucks for the toon you yourself put hard hours into playing with, and then you could make another and do it again. You would be rolling in the platinum or money or whichever you chose really and it all comes from hours of playing.
Do to the fact that items and platinum can be traded in the game and also with the help of illegal online trading on websites, there have been calculations on platinum currency to real currency exchange rates. The BBC reported in 2002 showed that Everquest was the 77th richest country in the world, between Russia and Bulgaria and that the People's Republic of China and India had lower GDP per capita. By 2004, a follow-up study showed that the average GDP of each of the two million players was $2,000 (£1,087) the same as the GDP of Namibia, approximately.
Though platinum isn't everything some people are dying for that high level class but aren't willing to put the man hours or game playing into it, so they will buy or trade your high level character from you. These people how ever don't usually have the experience they should for their character, and are usually spotted and then berated by others as eBayers.
Putting up your platinum or your character really isn't the issue though, sure it's frowned upon by some, but it's your time, your money, your platinum. What the real issue is, what is your time worth to you?
Publishers should be only be the one allowed to earn money with their subscriptions that are required to play the game. The players have rightfully spent their heard earned cash purchasing the "physical game" but yet are not able to resell it if they no longer want to play? Even if the player has no right and ownership to the stuff they acquire in the game such as gold, items, or money they do have the right to charge for a service to another player for acquiring it for them. Such services should include power leveling, farming gold, questing and etc.

Iceland - The Happy Country
According to conclusions of scientists from Britain research center "New Economic Foundation" who, together with the ecological organization "Friends of the Earth", made "The European Happy Planet Index" rating, Iceland appeared to be the happiest European country.
Analysts estimated every European country according to three factors: satisfaction of citizens with their living standards, life expectancy and "environmental pressure". The last term means the quantity of land necessary for providing the population with food products and neutralization of industrial wastes.
The rating including 30 countries of Europe was made up basing on the results of these estimations. As the survey revealed, Scandinavian countries are at the top of the list of the happiest European countries - Iceland is followed by Sweden, Norway and Denmark, they took the second, third and sixth places, accordingly. Switzerland is at the fourth place in the list, in this country there is the highest duration of life in Europe as well - 80.5 years. Estonia is the last at the tail of the rating of the happiest countries of Europe, where, besides the highest points on "environmental pressure", the level of criminality got the second place among the other countries of the list.
Luxemburg, Bulgaria and Greece appeared to be right ahead of Estonia. According to the rating, Latvia is a country with the lowest duration of life in Europe - 70.7 years. In July of 2006 year NEF published "The Happy Planet Index" rating for all the countries of the globe. The list of the happiest countries in the world was headed by the island state Vanuatu located in the Pacific Ocean. According to the rating the worst situation is in African countries and industrially advanced countries. Russia took the 172nd place from 178 possible in "The Happy Planet Index". From the republics of the former USSR, Estonians and Ukrainians feel unhappier than Russians (173rd and 174th places accordingly).
The experts note that the Europeans should pattern the behavior of the leader. In global sense that means using the renewable sources of energy for not to harm the ecology, in concrete sense - to better take care about the health of citizens.

The World's Most Affordable Travel Destinations
Wherever you choose to travel, going to popular tourist attractions and major cities tends to add up to higher bills. And as we all know, the most expensive things aren't always the best, and cheaper things are sometimes infinitely more rewarding. Sure, expensive places like Paris and New York are always well worth the visit, but many popular tourists attractions are overcrowded and underwhelming. So why not save your money by going to a less pricy place? You'll probably find it less crowded and more culturally rewarding, which leads to a deeper experience and some great memories to take home with you.
Here are just a few of the best travel destinations that happen to be relatively cheap:
1. South America: There are several countries in South America that now rank among the greatest places in the world to visit, and they're also quite cheap. For example, Venezuela, Peru, and Ecuador all have beautiful coastlines, welcoming people, great food, and attractive natural landscapes for hikers.
2. Egypt: Egypt is a fascinating country with more than just Pyramids. Sure, the Pyramids are great, but there are also some fantastic cities and towns (including modern, cosmopolitan Alexandria and Cairo) in the country, and the majestic Nile River is something that everyone should see at least once.
3. Bulgaria: Bulgaria has become a little more expensive since joining the European Union in 2007, but the country is still relatively affordable. It's home to numerous beautiful small towns as well as an extensive Black Sea coastline that is full of sunny resorts and great beaches.
4. Mexico: Mexico has been plagued by drug-related crime in recent years, but this phenomenon is mainly confined to a few areas of the country, especially around the border regions. We must remember that Mexico is a large country and that the vast majority of its people have nothing to do with the drug trade. Mexican towns have a pleasantly relaxed pace that you just don't find north of the border. The beaches are among the best in the world, and the capital Mexico City is an exciting modern metropolis.
5. Poland: Although its economy has improved, Poland is still one of the cheapest places in Europe to visit. The country is full of picturesque towns and some of the prettiest countryside in the continent. Now is probably the best time to visit, as Poland is expected to adopt the Euro in the near future, which should raise many of its prices.
6. Laos: Laos has some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in southeast Asia, including lush forests dotted with historic temples, as well as some spectacular Mekong River waterfalls. The rest of Southeast Asia is also quite affordable and worth visiting.
7. India: It can cost a chunk of change to get to India, but once you're in the country everything is astoundingly cheap. Best of all, the country is full of cultural riches and an endless variety of incredible scenery and diverse culture. Start in any one of India's major travel hubs, and you can't go wrong.
